The Hustle is a name for a variety of disco dances which were extremely popular in the 1970s that originated in America, specifically in New York City. Today it mainly refers to a partner dance performed in ballroom dance venues and nightclubs to disco music. It has some elements in common with swing dance. In the 1970s there was also a line dance called the Hustle. It is traditionally danced to club hits of both the 1970s as well as more contemporary songs if they have the right beat. The dance is designed to be highly dynamic, flashy, and powerful. Although it’s movement history is rooted in a 6 count basic, the final form of the dance is a 3 count basic with some extended patterns and syncopations.
